Long time no post… Has been quite busy for me lately. Loving my new job and I’m currently arranging moving to London, which proves to be harder than I thought. Bureaucracy sucks…
You may also have noticed that my icon maintenance on Pidgin have been lacking, but I hope to catch up on it soon. Meanwhile Jakub Steiner did some retouches on the Pidgin application icon, which will make its way into version 2.6. I really love the craziness of the creature. You thought the Pidgin logo was scary? Think again!
One thing that I did get done in my Free time however was a dark GTK theme. I have noticed It made me more productive, as the darkness makes you focus on the content instead of widgets (I sound like salesperson here, don’t I?). It took me a few weeks of tweaking, but I think it’s finally in a releasable state. It’s inspired by Darkilouche and uses the Nodoka engine. I called it “Doka”, meaning “dark room” in Dutch.
Get it here: Doka Dark Theme 1.0.

Hope it may be of use to others as well.
sorry but the link doesn’t work. this theme seems very good
zero: It works for me? Just type Doka.tar.gz behind my blog url.
Nicely done, I have always had a crush for dark themes.
Thanks!
Hi,
And thanks for this great dark theme, but please can you tell me the name of your window decorator theme ?
@Hi: Its included in the package
Love it. <3 The only thing I would change is, the orange buttons are rather in your face. It’d be nice to have them toned down a bit.
You need to install the Nodoka engine (http://appnr.com/install/gtk2-engines-nodoka) for this to work
I should check it out…
I have a bad feeling about it’s cooperation with Amarok though…
Could you tell us where you got some of your great wallpapers from?
Lovely theme, great work Bons!
P/S: are those background GNOME default? If not, where could I find them?
This is one of the most tastefully done dark themes I have seen. Nice work
Hot—awesome work. Love the simplicity of the window decs.
Sorry i don’t see in it, i will look better, thanks.
Why i put Hi in Name lol
that’s a very nice theme, Sir.
Very nice theme. Having the coloured stripe on active tabs would make it almost perfect.
Don’t you think the new Pidgin icon is too detailed?
The extra bells and whistles are a good idea for large sizes, but for small icons - simplicity is more appropriate.
Nice!
One thing, the highlight (for some things) is very low contrast. The compositor based volume control level is barely visible, for example.
Nick HS: They are all pictures taken by Garrett LeSage. Get them here: http://flickr.com/photos/garrett/sets/72157601461306539/
Hi, nice theme… but I think it does not behave so well with firefox: the active tab is not well highlighted and you need some times to find it.
and checkboxes are too dark (check it out on a light themed website ad gmail interface)
but, I repeat, it’s a very good theme.
webmonkey: yep, Firefox and OpenOffice.org are a real pain. They don’t play by the GTK rules…
Thanks for the tips all, will take them in for the next version.
Hi Hylke,
fantastic theme. You have a very good eye for colours. Everything in this theme looks very harmonious.
Could be my default theme for the future.
By the way, are you still often in tango and pidgin irc channels? I will try irc this week and would like to have a look insight the GNOME art team.
Best regards and keep care
Florian
Hey! Cute! Only drawback: the theme reference some Panel/panelbutton1.png file that is not provided in the tarball… Did you forget to package the file in the tarball are did you forget to remove references to this file before packaging?
Thanks!
an other (little) issue: when I try to install it dropping the tarball on the Appearance window, and the select it to apply the theme to my Gnome Desktop it says that I need the Gilouche engine, but selecting separately windows border and colors it works.
I cannot find a gilouche engine, only a nodoka one (wich cotains nodoka-gilouche, and was installed before Doka)
Hi Hylke,
Great theme ! You should add it to :
http://gnome-look.org
Best regards,
Wow, with my Triple-Screen setup, this great Dark Theme and my ergonomic mouse my productivity has increased by 3200%.
I am now starting to travel through time - backwards!
schmolch: I told you!
very nice! thanks
Still liking this theme a lot. Noticed one other little thing though: the scrollbar thumbs could probably be a bit lighter… they don’t stand out much.
nice theme…
Nice! Thanks for sharing.

is it normal that I’ve black text on dark background in form like this one (where I’m entering the comment)?
Nice theme! Jakub Steiner’s creation is a bit pale, but otherwise pretty cool.
That new Pidgin icon looks a lot less real than the current one.. It’s also quite shiny, which pigeons are not..
A picture is missing in the theme: Panel/panelbutton1.png
Can you make a new release? Thanks for that nice theme, I love it
I think Pidgin should adopt this as its logo instead: http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show.php?content=84627
Thanks, Hylke, this theme rocks!
2Kahlil Moonwalker: Sorry, but the author of that logo don’t know about avian anathomy
Wow, that pidgin icon is a bit scary. It should be less shiny IMO, although the increased detail is cool. But I prefer the icon Kahlil posted. Personally, I think it would be a bad thing if that icon is actually in 2.6.0.
Nice theme
How did you get your incscape to look so nice? With me, none of the icons seem to be from the icon-theme, but rather some ugly standard icons…
Hi Hbons,
I like your themes so much.
And, I want to ask, How can I do gtk themes, because I dont find a resource tutorial.
Can you help me?
Tks and GREAT icons for pidgin.
Good stuff hylke!
