Something I wanted to do for quite a while now: new smaller Pidgin smillies. Some people like them smaller, and I agree they demand less attention in your chat windows sometimes.
There is already a smaller smiley set, but these use the new (Mango like) style.
Click on the image to download. Extract in your ~/.purple/smileys/ directory. Hope I can get this in the next Pidgin.

Something’s up with your blog in Firefox - none of the text can be highlighted and none of the links work… Would be cool to get these smilies, I find myself forgetting what the textual representation is for all the msn smilies but all the icon sets that cover those end up forcing the line-height larger
Wow! These are FANTASTIC!
Chris: that’s really odd, I don’t have any of those problems. What browser do you use?
Anyway, here is the direct link: http://www.bomahy.nl/hylke/wip/Shrunk.zip
And yeah, the increased of the line height with the default smileys is kind of annoying.
Garrett: Glad you like them!
I have the same problem as Chris in Firefox 3.1
Do you have an idea when a new complete Mango styled icon set will be released? Together with Gnome 2.26 maybe?
Eh I actually meant Firefox 3.0.3, the version that’s currently in Ubuntu Intrepid
Maybe it does it already - would be nice if smiley size depended on the font size.
It’s the actual blog entry that isn’t clickable… The rest of the page works fine. I’m on Firefox 3.0.4, Ubuntu Hardy. Thx for the smilies!
Tim: Really weird then, I’m using the same stuff.
Stu: Interesting idea!
It’s because of Adblock+.
Thanks so much for these! The gaps the default ones caused in line-spacing were so ugly.
Really nice icons, but as the others; i have problems with your blog.
And something else; I don´t think this has anything to do with the theme, but Pidgin crashes everytime I try to start an MSN conversation (IRC works fine though) as soon as I switch to this theme.
It’s the H2#comments element (the heading that tells you “x Responses”). It consistently covers the entire body of each post, but I don’t understand why. Indeed, removing that element makes text selectable. I hope this helps.
Thanx for the icons =), the kind of little improvement that makes experience with Pidgin even better !
David: I just removed that line. Hope it works better now.
I have an issue on XMPP with some emotes.
I see XMPP XML header with emote inside and also in some links (in http:// :/ is an emote): http://img.wklej.org/images/92089zrzutekranu.png
Livio: issue is fixed now, please redownload. Thanks!
Thanks. I think chris is right, though, about it being an Adblock Plus issue. I still have no idea why blocking the Google ads has the effect that it does. Very strange. However, using Google cache to resurrect the missing comment section header, I was able to figure out a better workaround that doesn’t involve removing that header: .post { z-index: 1; }.
Thanks so much Hylke, these look great! I’m back to using Pidgin smilies again, as the previous ones were just too large for me.
Thank you very much. I’ve always found the odd line separation annoying.
Finally i can throw away my ugly set¹ and use yours. Despite of the “:-D” (look at his huge teeth) it looks really nice.

It doesn’t work in Windows. Extracted it to the .purple direction in Roaming AppData, and Pidgin doesn’t see it.
Neat-o
Hylke, removing “:/” emote is not a solution. Default Pidgin’s set contains such emote and works well.
Also, add some “kisses”: :* :-* ;* ;-* :** :-** ;** ;-** and so
.
Hey,
I like the pidgin smilies. What licence do they have? I would like to use them on my websites. Is that allowed?
Greetings
ReMichael: It’s under the GPLv2+, so feel free to use.
Dank u wel, Hylke!
Just wanted to let you know that I used your smiley set in my new weblog. It’s definitely hard to find a stylish, simple and *free* smiley set these days, but your icons were just the thing I needed!

As as aside, the line-height problem which larger icons can cause can be fixed by setting the “line-height” CSS property of all smiley images to 0px
That works for the sub and sup elements too!
Thanks again for your wonderful work!
Thanks for the tip GreyWyvern
Cheers, great icons.
