Putting out a RC release to day to find out if there are any big issues before the first stable 0.2 release. The Linux version has been getting some love lately, and it’s now as pretty as its Mac brother.
Make sure to read the updated documentation for use on Github, Gitorious, or your own server.
The NEWS file: 0.2-rc1 for Linux and Mac (Sun Mar 20, 2011)
Hylke: A lot of fixes and optimisations across the backend. Less memory
usage, less crashes. Instant notifications of new changes instead of polling.
Refreshed event log HTML theme. Keeping logs in memory for faster reopening and
loads more goodness.
A more detailed list of changes, and roadmap, can be found on the wiki.
Important: On Mac, make sure to have a symbolic link to git in /usr/bin/git.
Get it here.
Great news!
I’m looking forward to a stable release for a long time. Are there plans for a release for windows as well? Unfortunately, the roadmap for 1.0 or 2.0 doesn’t mention it.
Would be awesome if there was a Windows Server installation package and Windows client too. Since I only have Windows servers
interesting
Such a good news! Downloading…
Awesome I am setting up my owen SparkleShare Server with Ubuntu. I am using Mac Linux and a Windows Mashine. SparkleShare is exactly what I am looking for a long time now. To Sync my Photos, Documents and Music on all my Devices.
How far is the Windows version ?? How long will it take to get a working Windows Version ?
Will there be a Client Software for Moble devices like android and iPhone ??
@keamas All in due time. I’m having my hands full on the Linux and Mac versions at the moment.
Mono works correctly in Windows box. Anyway, I do not understand that does not work at Windows. Regards.
@yoburtu the UI needs to be ported, git bundled, installer made, and much more.
I think one of the bes features of dropbox is that it follows symlinks and therefore it is easy to synchronize a folder just by symlinking it. Do you plan to implement is that way?
@gorn No, because git doesn’t allow you to do that. I also think that it will get harder to see what is being synced, causing more errors.
Is there an ETA for a stable release?
I hope this thing is going to turn out as great as it sounds
@lyxn No. When it’s done
Would be nice with Mac OS 10.5 support
In the absence of 10.5 support, a statement of which Mac OS version(s) is supported up front so 10.5 users don’t waste their time downloading something that won’t work anyway, would be nice.
Apart from that: Good Work! (I hope ;))
Works great on my Mac! Thank you so much! I’m thinking of setting up a private git server on EC2 just for me and my friends
